The District's Child Nutrition Office would like to thank parents, students and staff for a great 2013 National School Lunch Week.

Our schools were busy the week of October 14-16 participating in National School Lunch Week, turning our daily lunches into a celebration! Elementary schools honored the event by inviting parents to National Take Your Parent to Lunch Day on Oct. 15, and it was a huge success. More than 250 parents across our five elementary schools attended the event. They enjoyed our fresh salad bars, a drumstick or two and lots of laughter.

The middle and high schools celebrated as well, serving a special menu following the national theme of “Across the US”. Each day’s menu highlighted foods from different parts of the United States. Monday included some of New England’s finest with Philly cheese steaks, Coney Island hotdogs and fresh apples. Tuesday featured good ‘ol southern comfort food of cornbread, baked chicken, peaches and oranges. Finally, Wednesday was a luau featuring Hawaiian chicken, baked sweet potatoes and an entire spread of tropical fruits. Each food item was accompanied by a piece of trivia about how that food became a staple of that region of the U.S. It was a refreshing week with new foods, fun and a touch of education.
